The Rotary clubs of Accrington and Church and Oswaldtwistle joined together 2 weeks before Christmas manning the Santa sleigh at ASDA and TESCO, and with the help of the public raised £2,200 which was designated for Derian House the Children’s hospice based in Chorley.
Both Rotary clubs wish to thank the shoppers at the 2 supermarkets for their generous contributions which produced such a magnificent sum which is going to such a worthwhile Charity. Also both Rotary clubs wish to thank the 2 Supermarkets for allowing the collections to take place.
Jill Kirkham Fundraiser at the hospice received the cheque at a Rotary club meeting from Presidents Jacquie Baldwin and Doreen Lawton. Jill commented “that Derian House are very appreciative of this donation and earlier cheques from the 2 clubs which helps the hospice meet its target .
Situated in the heart of Lancashire, Derian House is renowned throughout the region as being at the forefront of children’s palliative and respite care. Currently more than 300 families have a child with a life shortening illness, and a further 200 who are receiving bereavement support.
The cost of providing this high level of care and support is in excess of £2.9 million for 2014 and in the absence of any significant statutory funding, most of the this money will be by the efforts of Derian House and the generosity of friends and supporters in the community.
