NOW IS THE TIME TO REGISTER FOR THE BIG WALK

The annual Walk 4 Your Charity organised by the Rotary Club of Church and Oswaldtwistle will take place on Sunday 18th May, 2014 and details are available to register on line or by telephone.

This will be the 9th consecutive year that this event takes place and it ranks as Hyndburn’s largest walk. This year there will be a 5k and a 10k distance which will permit a better choice for people of all ages and capabilities.

The walk commences at 9.30 am (to 10.00am) from the Business Park at Junction 7, Clayton le Moors (across from the Dunkenhalgh Hotel). The 10k route takes walkers along the Leeds-Liverpool canal then through Great Harwood before returning to the start. Those on the 5k walk will go through Rishton and Great Harwood and again finishing at the start position.

We are pleased to have the popular Sally Naden lead off the 10k walk which she intends to complete. Sally from BBC Radio Lancashire is well known throughout the region and hopefully her presence will attract more entries.

Despite being a southerner, Sally Naden now very much considers herself a bonafide Lancastrian. She met her husband Dave at Summerland in the Isle of Man in 1973. Sally first worked with Jim Bowen on the award winning “Happy Daft” morning show. Four years ago Sally was diagnosed with breast cancer but she’s bounced back with more energy than before. Sally commented that “When I came back after being off, I was desperate to thank all the amazing people of Lancashire who had sent me get well wishes.”

All participants of the walk can be sponsored for any good cause, or a Charity like Cancer Research or NSPCC, or for much needed funds for say amateur football clubs, Scout groups or any other organisations, really the list is endless.

The entrance fee is £5 per person, children under 12 go free. The fee will be £7 for those registering on the day of the event. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash. Food and refreshments are available along the route as well as at the start and finish.

Stewards from many Rotary Clubs will be on hand along the route to answer any questions and to encourage the walkers achieve a finish.

This year we want to emphasize walkers to come along in Fancy Dress and monetary prizes will be given to those who are judged to be the winners in 2 classes ie best individual and best group. Please do your best to make this the best ever.

Entertainment will be provided by the popular group BlowJangles who will be on hand to welcome the walkers as they arrive back after completing the walk.
