ROTARY CLUB’S SIXTY THIRD BIRTHDAY
The 63rd Charter Anniversary Dinner of the Rotary Club of Church and Oswaldtwistle was held on Thursday 13th March, at the Mitton Hall Hotel, near Whalley. President Doreen Lawton and her committee led by Rotarian Ian McTurk could well claim it was one of the most successful Charter evenings in living memory.
The Mayor of Hyndburn, Judith Addison and Mayoress Kathleen Pratt were guests of honour as were Rotary District Governor Kevin Walsh and Assistant Governor Jane Wadsworth. In addition Presidents and Rotarians from 7 local clubs were present including guests from Southampton and Dublin.
During the course of the evening District Governor gave an inspiring speech highlighting the major international projects that Rotary are involved with, especially the drive to eradicate polio. Kevin also complimented Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary club for the 2 recent awards for being the top club in the North West and Cumbria.
President Doreen thanked all club members especially Ian McTurk and his committee saying“ I am very proud of the organisation that has gone into this Charter evening, and the turnout of over 100 Rotarians and Guests is very much appreciated”.
Entertainment was provided by the most impressive duo of Victor Michael and HayleyBerrisford and then by the Eric Ainsworth Quartet with singer Lyn Fairbanks.
