With less than 6 weeks to go before Hyndburn’s largest Charity Walk the Rotary club of Church and Oswaldtwistle wish to remind the public that this event takes place on Sunday 18th May. The Walk comprises a 10k and 5k circular walk starting at 9.30am from the Business centre at Junction 7 across from the Dunkenhalgh Hotel at Clayton le Moors.
This will be the 9th Walk organised by the Rotary club and since inception has raised around £400,000 for various Charities and good causes. Walkers on the 10k event will travel along an historic part of the Leeds-Liverpool canal which saw many successful firms around the Church basin with remains still visible. A plaque at Church Kirk indicates exact halfway ie 63 and 5/8th miles.
The popular BBC Radio Lancashire presenter Sally Naden has agreed to get the Walk underway and hopes to complete the 10k event. The club is delighted to have such a personality lead the way.
Walkers are invited to procure a Sponsorship form and raise funds for any Charity of their choice or alternatively raise funds for any good cause ie Scout groups, football clubs or similar the list is endless. Although the Rotary club are the organisers of the event the sponsorship is arranged by the Walkers and monies raised are passed passed to the nominated Charity by the walker themselves.
This year we would like to see more Walkers in Fancy Dress, and prizes will be awarded to the best individual and best group. Please do your best to dress up accordingly, it certainly brings more colour and atmosphere to the Walk.
Blowjangles a musical group will be entertaining throughout the day with their lively music and colourful outfits.
The entrance fee is £5 per person (£7 on the day) children under 12 go free. Food and refreshments are available along the route as well as at the start and finish. Plenty of stewards will be in attendance.
Ron Pickup the Walk Organiser is hoping for a good turnout and any person wanting information/ entry forms and Sponsorship forms should either register on line at: www.rotarycharitywalk.org.uk or ring Stuart Duhan on telephone number 01254 433501
