President Doreen Lawton handed over the President’s chain to Ian McTurk at the lunchtime meeting on Monday 30th June,2014.

The handover meeting was well attended by Rotarians and guests alike. President Doreen presented Rotarian of the Year to two people!  Michael Jackson and Franco Sanna for their joint and wonderful efforts to provide the club with such excellent publicity both locally and in the Rotary District.  In the latest Rotary District magazine we were mentioned six times!

Doreen has a most successful year which has certainly taken the Rotary club of Church and Oswaldtwistle to some notable successes. The club was awarded the coveted title of the best Facebook Page against the other 73 clubs in the district-thanks of course go to Franco Sanna who is very much involved not only with the development of our Facebook but is the club’s photographer.

Also the club claimed top award in the district for being the highest giver to Foundation ie Rotary’s charity. The club is very proud to have been a significant giver to our own charity for many years

Also another success has been the growth in membership, which is manly due to Chairperson Sally Blenkinship and her committee, many new members have been inducted with 4 members being recruited in the last 2 months.

The club also hold the Crown Green Fred Pickering trophy for being champions of the league involving clubs in South East Lancashire.

Doreen has ensured that the club has been a happy and contented club with fellowship being the keynote of her year.

All members have helped President Doreen over the past 12 months to make the Rotary club of Church and Oewaldtwistle well known throughout East Lancashire and further afield.

We all wish Doreen a well earned rest for a few months, she has been a first class President and we all send her our thanks.

Now over to incoming President Ian McTurk who fully deserves being nominated as President, we are sure we are in for another successful year.

Our new President Ian McTurk was given the chain of office from our out-going President Doreen Lawton.  Sharron Edwards in turn was given the Vice-Presidents chain of office.  Here they all are:-

Ian told us about some exciting additional plans for his year of office including a potential vocational visit to the Houses of Parliament and a trip to Brussels including a visit to Waterloo just before the 200th anniversary of the great battle.  We also took the opportunity to take a photograph of most people that came to the meeting.
