Three pupils at Rhyddings School took part in a Young Chefs competition on Wednesday evening December 3rd. This was the 1st Round of a competition organised by Rotary International and the pupils’ task was to prepare a three course meal to a budget with the emphasis on healthy eating.
The pupils were encouraged by Mrs Jayne Jolly and Mrs Lisa Bancroft, Head Technology Teachers.
The contestants, Luke Tomlinson, Charlotte Allonby from Year 10 and Morgan Herne, Year 9 were judged on the costing of the meal, planning, healthy choices, neatness of the working area, range of skills used, presentation and of course the taste of the three courses.
It was the “duty” of three members of the Rotary Club of Church and Oswaldtwistle to judge the competition and this proved to be a most enjoyable evening watching the preparation and the final presentation of the food by these talented young people.
All three produced excellent dishes and when all the points were added up, there was only one point between them.
The winner was Morgan Herne with her meal of Leek and Potato Soup, Chicken wrapped in Parma ham with seasonal vegetables and fluffy chocolate mousse with raspberries.
The judges, Lucy Cheng-Jackson, Susan Haworth and Doreen Lawton congratulated all three on their excellent efforts.
Morgan will now be entered in the Rotary District Competition competing against pupils from other schools.
