santa dThe Rotary Club of Church and Oswaldtwistle wish to give a big thank you to all the residents and shoppers seen during the month of December when Santa and his new sleigh toured the streets of Oswaldtwistle and the surrounding districts.
Despite some very inclement weather, Santa’s Sleigh was out on 14 evenings and it was a pleasure to see so many families turn out with their children to speak to Santa and have their photo taken to keep as a permanent record.
Ken Freeman the Club’s Fundraising Chairman was the organiser and leader every evening and was very much the reason for a record amount of money being raised. A great deal of planning is required to ensure Santa had sufficient helpers and thanks must go out to all Rotarians and Friends of Rotary who served on the nightly rota as did members of the Oswaldtwistle NHS walking group.
President Ian McTurk paid a tribute saying “Ken was a real star who devoted a great deal of time arranging each evenings outings, which resulted in almost every area of the district being visited, the Rotary club is very proud of Ken”.
Also President Ian said he had to put on record the generosity of the people of Oswaldtwistle and surrounding areas who had contributed each evening to record a magnificent sum of £4,000 with every penny going to charity. President Ian said “On behalf of all members of the Rotary Club of Church and Oswaldtwistle we really appreciate what the local public has achieved in making the Santa project so successful, this is a real partnership of all concerned and again as the year progresses we will show just what Rotary can help to do for the community. I would also like to thank Friend of Rotary, Phil Wardle who ensures the sleigh is updated, and also Hyndburn Council for their continuing support”.
