Once again, it is the time of the year when teams from local secondary schools gather at Hollins Technology College for the local area Rotary Technology Tournament. Each team entering the tournament will have a set time to build a technical project and prove it works by testing it out in the presence of the judging panel.
It is expected that up to 15 schools will be entering the competition, with each one having up to three teams, each consisting of four students. There are different levels of skill to accommodate the technical ability levels of the students. Staff are also encouraged to ‘have a go’.
It is one of Rotary’s most important events, with the tournament attracting sponsorship from local companies, who also take a close look at both the technical challenge and the resulting successful team performances.
The Tournament is intended to give students taking part, the opportunity to see design and technology as stimulating, attractive and challenging. It also gives participants the chance to enhance their team building and communication skills, whilst solving a design & technology problem at National Curriculum level.
The local heat of the competition is organised by Rotary Clubs from Hyndburn, Blackburn, Rossendale and the Ribble Valley.
Please talk to Albert Wilkinson or Jim Hargreaves about supporting the event on the day. All help welcome!
