The Rotary club of Church and Oswaldtwistle held its annual Charter Dinner to celebrate the club’s birthday. Rotary International in the United States of America awarded the charter to the club in 1950. Therefore this was the 65th consecutive year the event has taken place.
The venue was the Dunkenhalgh Hotel. The celebrations were a huge success with over 140 Rotarians and guests attending an evening brimming with professional entertainment that followed the dinner.
The Mayor of Hyndburn Munsif Dad and Arthur Jones District Governor elect paid tribute to the achievements of the Rotary club over recent years especially its involvement in local, national and International projects.
Ian McTurk President of the Rotary club firstly thanked the many guests attending and thanked them for their continued support of Rotary and the club of Church and Oswaldtwistle in particular; he also praised club members for their hard work during the year, where we have helped various projects involving the promotion of Youth education and youth experiences, mentoring and community work and much more.
President Ian also singled out 2 local non Rotarian ladies for a special ‘Service Recognition Award’ given by Rotary, who continue to achieve great success in their fields. Firstly Carmel Cunliffe, Business Manager at Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School who have been involved in many important youth projects and youth opportunities liaising closely between the School and the Rotary club, with many more events planned over the coming months.
Secondly Gayle Knight, who is the Creative Director at the local Civic Arts Centre and Civic Theatre, who over the last years has transformed this organisation to the benefit of residents and many local groups, including a lead role in the restoration of the bi annual Oswaldtwistle carnival, which has proved so popular. She has arranged numerous successful events being very much involved with the Rotary club.
Also attending the Charter Dinner were eight additional Rotary clubs, which certainly helped to promote the image of Rotary, who are always on the lookout for new members.
