The students and staff of year 7 from the Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School are to be congratulated in raising the grand sum of £1047 which they wish to go to the Nepal disaster fund. This is the result of sponsorship from the recent Charity Walk and other fund raising activities.
The cheque for this amount was presented to Ian McTurk, President of the Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary Club by Carmel Cunliffe, Business Manager from the School.
The Rotary Club have been very much involved in helping the people of Nepal with the installation of a water system in the village of Maikot in the Gorka region which meant that water could be pumped up to the village instead of having to walk half a mile to bring water by hand from the valley below to the village. Rotarian George Blenkinship spearheaded this project and went out to Nepal to observe the progress of the water system
When the earthquakes hit Nepal especially in the Gorka region earlier this year it was evident that further funds were needed to be sent to the local Rotary club in Gorka and personal and club cheques were sent immediately. This contribution from Rhyddings High School will go towards survival equipment as the poor people in Maikot are still rebuilding their homes.
Ian McTurk president of the Rotary club commented “the cheque from Rhyddings School is very much appreciated and credit must go to the students and staff who were part of raising such a grand sum, the Rotary club in Maikot will certainly pass this to the local people who are still in a desperate plight”.
The cooperation between Rhyddings School and the Rotary club is very close and many projects are underway which is credit to President Elect Jim Hargreaves and Carmel Cunliffe who are involved in promoting the various activities.
