A group of 20 ladies from the slimming world group of Accrington and Baxenden will be stepping out to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation at the Charity walk organised by the Rotary club of Church and Oswaldtwistle on Sunday 15th May, 2016.
The slimming group are to be congratulated for taking part in this event that can raise substantial monies for charities and good causes, and they will be in good company as many groups and individuals have already signed up to undertake the 5 or 10k walk.
The 10k route is very scenic, taking walkers along the Leeds-Liverpool canal and then the old railway track to Great Harwood. Over 500 people are expected to take part in this charity walk which makes it the largest in Hyndburn and like previous years the walk is expected to raise over £30,000 for worthwhile charities and good causes.
There is still time to sign up for either of the charity walks, and participants can be assured of joining up with other people to enjoy the company of fellow walkers, feeling the well being of achieving the walk, and if they have secured sponsorship, the knowledge that charities and good causes will benefit.
Marisa Barnes who is from the slimming group and is the leader for this 10k walk said “ We are an active group of ladies who feel we should raise funds for the British Heart Foundation which is a charity organisation that funds research, education, care and awareness campaigns aimed to prevent heart diseases.”
The entrance fee is £5 per person (£7 on the day) children under 12 go free. The start of both walks is at 9.30am.
